The best time to visit Machu Picchu on a day trip is during the dry season. It typically runs from May to October. During these months, you can expect clearer skies, lower chances of rain, and more comfortable trekking conditions.
However, this period also coincides with the peak tourist season. Hence it’s essential to be prepared for larger crowds and higher prices. If you prefer a quieter experience and don’t mind the possibility of occasional rain. We recommend visiting Machu Picchu during the shoulder months (April and November) can be a good alternative.
Regardless of when you choose to visit, it’s important to arrive early in the morning. This will help you to beat the crowds and make the most of your day trip.
Yes! Cusco helps you acclimatize to altitude before Machu Picchu (prevents altitude sickness). Plus, Cusco is a historic Inca city worth exploring! You can book a Cusco city tour to get an overview of the best Cusco city highlights there is to offer.
Cusco is generally safe, but like any city, there are precautions for nighttime walks. Stick to well-lit, populated areas, especially in the Plaza de Armas and San Blas districts. Avoid deserted streets and alleys.
Consider taking taxis for late-night travel, which are affordable in Cusco. If walking, be aware of your surroundings, don’t carry valuables, and stay with a group if possible.

Everything about this tour company and the experience was great. The guide was very friendly and took great effort to explain everything in detail.
Felt very safe as they complied with all norms of social distancing and COVID-19 protocols.
I highly recommend this tour and the company.
Awesome trip. My guide was super informative and helpful. The pick up process, trains and bus were all flawless. Machu Picchu was amazing, but the guide really added to the experience with tons of info!
The journey started from Ollantaytambo Station in Peru and was one of the best scenic journey you don’t want to miss.Even we were entertained by Songs accompanied by Bugule with big TV showing the train ride at the waiting room before the train ride.
During the ride they served coffee, snacks and drinks and we greatly enjoyed.
John was an exceptional guide. His local knowledge was absolutely outstanding. If you want to see the touristy places but also those that the locals flock to, then you can’t go wrong with John. He took us around Cusco and Machu Picchu – gave us lots of options and recommendations of the best places to eat (which was a real highlight for me!). He made sure we didn’t miss anything we wanted to see and took us to heaps of cool places we didn’t know about. John made my time in Peru just incredible. I cannot recommend John highly enough, you’d be silly to go with anyone else.
