If you decide the Machu Picchu 2 Day Tour from Cusco is right for you, it will take you on a monumental odyssey by train to reach the ancient and glorious Inca site of Machu Picchu.

2 Day Tour to Machu Picchu

As one of the greatest ancient civilizations in South America, the Incas built the citadel without using cement. The massive rocks here are cut in a way that they would fit each other perfectly.

This 2-day journey by train involves passing through the Sacred Valley by Chinchero, Ollantaytambo town, overnight in Aguas Calientes, and beautiful scenery before you visit the mystical and wondrous Machu Picchu. You’ll delight in the adventure and be able to immerse yourself in the knowledge of these ancient people.

The closer you get to the archaeological site, the more its mystery will surround you. On a guided tour, you will be visiting the Main Plaza, the Sacred Solar Clock, the Temple of the Three Windows, and the Royal Quarters, amongst other delights.

The 2-day tour to Machu Picchu is well worth the cost and will help you build memories that will last forever. Embrace the mystery of the Incan People with a 2 Day Tour to Machu Picchu.

The best time to experience the tour is during the dry season – between March and November. During the rainy season (December to February) it is often cloudy.

If you want to hike the Huayna Picchu mountain or Machu Picchu mountain then please note that you will need permits which are often sold out months in advance. It is highly recommended that you advise us while booking your trip to Machu Picchu.

Itinerary
2 Day Tour to Machu Picchu

Day 1Cusco to Aguas Calientes

Your epic 2 Day tour to Machu Picchu from Cusco begins with a pickup from your hotel in Cusco at 0800 AM. We will then embark on a two hours drive to Ollantaytambo train station. This Cusco Sacred Valley route offers staggering views of remote Andean communities tucked amidst the snow-capped Andean peaks.

You will have some free time in Ollantaytambo so you can buy some last-minute supplies. At 11:00 AM, we will be boarding the tourist train operated by Peru Rail or Inca Rail to Machu Picchu.

The train journey in itself offers a rewarding experience. You will get spectacular views of the countryside as the train will be snaking through the villages along the Urubamba River, from the Andes to the cloud forest.

Once in Aguas Calientes, our representative will transfer you to your hotel in the center of the town. You will have the evening to yourself to walk around the town.

What to do in Aguas Calientes?

If you love history then the Machu Picchu Museum is a great place to visit. The museum highlights pre-Inca times with a collection of Inca artifacts. The Orchid Gardens is another location to visit which is about a 30-minute walk from Aguas Calientes.

The site has a rustic feel filled with a variety of beautiful orchids on display. Or enjoy the rest of the day relaxing in the thermal waters of the Hot Springs, in Aguas Calientes.

Day 2Machu Picchu and back to Cusco

Early in the morning, we will be taking the 25 minutes bus ride up the hill to Machu Picchu citadel. Our tour guide will be meeting you at the entrance of this world heritage site.

After clearing the security control, we will start with an immersive two hours guided tour of Machu Picchu citadel. We will be visiting the remains of the royal quarters, ceremonial sites, farming terraces, sundial clock, and more.

After the tour, you will have free time for exploring Machu Picchu on your own.

If you have booked to hike Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain, our guide will direct you to the trailhead. Please note that this requires an advanced booking and is not included in the price.

Alternatively, you can hike to Inti Punku or Sun Gate. This is the point of entry to the citadel for those on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

After visiting Machu Picchu, we will depart Aguas Calientes to board the train back to Ollantaytambo. Here our representative will be meeting you and will drive you back to Cusco. We will arrive at the City of Cusco by 7:00 p.m.

Everything about this tour company and the experience was great. The guide was very friendly and took great effort to explain everything in detail.

Felt very safe as they complied with all norms of social distancing and COVID-19 protocols.
I highly recommend this tour and the company.

The journey started from Ollantaytambo Station in Peru and was one of the best scenic journey you don’t want to miss.Even we were entertained by Songs accompanied by Bugule with big TV showing the train ride at the waiting room before the train ride.
During the ride they served coffee, snacks and drinks and we greatly enjoyed.

John was an exceptional guide. His local knowledge was absolutely outstanding. If you want to see the touristy places but also those that the locals flock to, then you can’t go wrong with John. He took us around Cusco and Machu Picchu – gave us lots of options and recommendations of the best places to eat (which was a real highlight for me!). He made sure we didn’t miss anything we wanted to see and took us to heaps of cool places we didn’t know about. John made my time in Peru just incredible. I cannot recommend John highly enough, you’d be silly to go with anyone else.
