Palccoyo stands out from the Vinicunca trek by featuring a much shorter and moderate walk, making it the ideal choice for those seeking a more relaxed and gentle journey without sacrificing the spectacular views. Palccoyo Mountain displays a landscape of three rainbow-colored mountains—each with mineral-rich hues—best appreciated via an easy hike offering unparalleled 360 panoramic views.
The full-day tour begins with a scenic drive through the Andean highlands, revealing vast valleys and towering peaks. As you ascend, the mountain colors intensify, creating a stunning natural spectacle. The route also passes through traditional Quechua villages, providing an invaluable glimpse into Andean culture.
This journey is not just about the scenery; it’s a gateway to Andean culture. In the traditional villages, travelers can witness the ancestral way of life, with locals tending to their alpacas and weaving intricate textiles. Our expert local guides enrich the trip with a deeper understanding of the history and traditions that define this remarkable region. Palccoyo is the superior choice for a rainbow mountain tour that seamlessly blends the beauty of nature with genuine cultural immersion and the convenience of easy access.

The Palcoyo hike is considered easy to moderate, perfect for families and travelers who prefer a shorter, less strenuous trek.
Altitude: approximately 4,900 meters (16,000 feet)
Walking distance: around 1.5 km (1 mile)
Hiking time: 30–45 minutes one way
Most tours start with a pick-up around 4:00–4:30 a.m. from your hotel in Cusco.

It’s easier to reach and requires less hiking
There are fewer tourists, offering a more peaceful experience
The scenery includes three rainbow mountains instead of one

The best time to visit is during the dry season (April to October) when skies are clear and colors are vibrant.
In the rainy season (November to March), expect occasional showers but fewer crowds — the mountain can still be visited year-round.

Tours still operate in light rain or cold weather. However, in case of heavy snow or unsafe conditions, the guide or agency may adjust the itinerary for safety reasons.
It’s technically possible to visit independently, but it’s highly recommended to go with a professional tour, as they handle transportation, meals, and emergencies at high altitude.

The meeting lasts approximately 30 to 45 minutes. If you are unable to attend, you can coordinate another time by email or WhatsApp, and our team will assist you with all the necessary information.
Of course! You can leave your main luggage safely at our office during your trip completely free of charge.
If you prefer, you can also leave it at your hotel.

I made the contract with Machu Picchu tours to spend a week in Cusco as the starting point for our tours. The contact was all through Elaine who carried out the hiring of the hotels in Cusco and Aguas Calientes, tours to Sacred Valley, Humantay lagoon, Machu Picchu and colorful mountain.
